Emma Hursey

Emma Hursey is an award-winning British designer, artist and surfer. For over 12 years, she has fine-tuned a surprising and highly considered approach to visuals and words – ensuring wit, joy and relevance in a saturated world. She is the founder and creative director of the design studio Doing Me Doing You.

Through her design career she has worked at top brands and institutions in London and Berlin. In 2017, Emma exhibited The Cost of the Patriarchy at the V&A Museum’s Friday Late. The work looked at the ebbs and flows of women’s rights throughout history. In 2018, she showed a research project Contrary to What is Agreeable at The Wømb Symposium – a zine and poster exhibition exploring diversity in the UK’s creative sector. In 2019, she was a founding member of the design collective The Boys Club Berlin hosting events for the likes of AIGA Eye on Design, Ladies, Wine and Design and notamuse. That same year her work Flags of a Nxtion was exhibited as part of 48h Neukölln in The Boys Club’s group show. This work used the language of flags to reimagine visuals for a utopian value-led nation. In 2021, Emma collaborated with Carly Ladas on the creation of Our Store – a retail space within Little Parliament in Rainbow Beach that showcases Australian designed wares.

Outside of design, she surfs daily, cooks messy and elaborate meals, and is learning to oil paint. Emma is an avid photographer and reader. She established Good Book Catalogue in 2020 and has run Resources for Creatives since 2018. She previously lived in London, in Berlin, and briefly on a Corsican commune before relocating to Australia’s Rainbow Beach in 2019.
